About BL 2

Fireworks

Water

1 tblsp Vegetable oil

Food coloring

Clear glass bowl

Spoon

Paper cup (Dixie cups)

Fill bowl with water

Pour oil in cup

Mix in food coloring

Pour into water

Watch and record what happens (for 10 min)

The colored oil will settle on top of the water.

As it settles you should begin to notice the coloring separate from the oil.

As the coloring separates from the oil you should see streams of color sink to the bottom of the bowl.

This happens because oil and water do not mix (oil is lighter than water) and food coloring is made with water.

Fireworks 2

Milk ¼ cup – ½ cup

Dish soap

Food coloring

Pie pan or small shallow bowl

Pour milk into bowl or pie pan

Add 3 drops of food coloring in a circle near center

* Try not to disturb bowl

Add 1 drop of dish soap to center of food coloring circle

Or add drop of dish soap to center of each food coloring drop

Watch what happens

The coloring should “run” away

Creating little bursts of fireworks
